Mail Server Management

LiveConfig enables the complete configuration of a mail server for sending and receiving emails, including spam and virus protection.

Installation

To send and receive emails, you need the Postfix (SMTP server) and Dovecot (IMAP/POP3 server) services:

  • Debian/Ubuntu:
    • Postfix: postfix

    • Dovecot: dovecot-pop3d dovecot-imapd dovecot-sieve

    • Spam-Filter: spamassassin

    • Virenscanner: clamav-daemon

    • recommended: opendkim postgrey lc-postsrsd2

  • Rocky Linux:
    • Postfix: postfix

    • Dovecot: dovecot-pop3d dovecot-imapd dovecot-sieve

    • Spam-Filter: spamassassin

    • Virenscanner: clamav-daemon

    • recommended: opendkim postgrey lc-postsrsd2

Note

When using the installation script, these packages are already installed and set up automatically.

Configuration

Under Server administration -> (Select server) -> “E-mail” tab, activate the administration of Postfix and Dovecot.

The Postfix settings are very extensive:

Checklist for successful e-mailing

  • check that the reverse DNS name for the IP address where you’re sending from is configured correctly

  • some hosting providers filter outbound traffic on port 25 by default (to prevent spam); in these cases contact their support for unblocking

  • (coming soon: more on SPF, DKIM)
